17 Weeks Pregnant (Day 113 to Day 119)

What happens to you?

Your growing belly shifts your center of gravity. You may feel your feet unsteady, so you should avoid wearing high heels to prevent yourself from falling.

Dryness gets more intense, especially in the eyes. If you are wearing contact lenses, it would be better to replace them with glasses.

Little brown patches might appear on your face – especially around forehead, nose, mouth and chin. They are often quite a few and form a mask shape on your face. The discoloration is called chloasma; it is temporary and usually disappears after delivery.

You can probably feel your uterus just above your pubic bone.

It is about time you took the Alpha Test (Triple Test) – You should have a nuchal translucency ultrasound if you have not already done so.

This week, you should do the appropriate screening tests as well, i.e. hematocrit test for anemia control, fasting blood sugar test and urine test so as to detect any urinary tract infection or kidney disorder.

Advice: Sleeping on your left side improves the blood circulation to your uterus and fetus.

What happens to your baby?

During this stage of pregnancy, most of your baby's reflexes are being developed and it keeps growing rapidly.

Now the placenta and your baby are approximately of the same size. Layers of fat start to develop under the skin and the baby is able to detect sounds from the outside world.

Its length has now reached 12 centimeters and weighs 110 grams.
